This is actually a clever idea, and I hope that it works out. LHR is a worldwide hub in itself, and connects to numerous others (not only FRA but also CDG, AMS, ZRH and a whole bunch of smaller ones). LCY essentially connects to the same European hubs as LHR. But LGW, now that almost everybody else has pulled out except the LCCs, doesn't connect to any hub worth the name at all - LH's arrival will suddenly create one-stop connections to the world. And as others has pointed out, it is infinitely easier for a lot of us who don't live in central London to get to. For me (unless I go by car), LHR is two trains and a bus ride away, and LGW is a train, a tube, and the DLR. LGW is a direct train route. And I'm sure others who have flown out of LGW since they were liberated from the tyranny of BAA have noticed the change in atmosphere as well (e g friendly security screeners who actually *smile*...). I for one intend to use this connection as often as possible. The one thing I'm going to miss from taking LH out of LHR is their excellent *G/First check-in setup. I just wonder what they're going to do about lounge access at LGW...

For charters I'd assume. Don't forget bmi carries out a lot of charter flights.

Why no contract lounge at LGW?
I'm really chuffed that LH are starting service to LGW, and keen to show this by giving the route as much business as I can. But, given that LH seems to be willing to pay for qualifying passengers to use a contract lounge at pretty much every other airport in the world, why haven't they signed up with one at LGW? The website says "Unfortunately there is no lounge offer at this airport" for every category - including F and Hon passengers! Those are weasel words. It says the same thing about LCY, where I have much more sympathy as there aren't any lounges. But this doesn't apply to LGW, which does have lounges which are manifestly used by other *G carriers (e g US which uses the No 1 lounge). Come on LH, we all want your LGW experiment to work out - show that you've got more to offer business travellers than Easyjet!

HON/SEN get a refreshment voucher in LCY, more significantly I think the fact that there is no LH staff anymore in LCY and everything is handled by Aria may be a much more significant issue. Just think irregs...
The GG pages for LGW are under update... its seems the designated/planned service is the Servisair lounge for HON/SEN/C pax. I suppose you have to wait for service to commence next week?

I'm sure they have squared everything away but not published anything... big company, ground handling is one department, website maintenance and TA GDS info pages probably in the hands of marketing...?

To be fair, there are no lounges (for anyone) at London City. IIRC Tyler Brule likes to write about this every once in a while if you want some support from the "other" FT (Financial Times):

The voucher used to be 5 GBP IIRC so it was possible to get a nice bottle of water.
